back Axelle Red takes action
The Belgian committee of Unicef has just launched a new campaign
set to last two years, this time dedicated to the plight of
the children in Laos who, deprived of any education in a country
that is the poorest in Asia, are also victims of discrimination,
disease, handicaps, prostitution and violence.
Axelle Red, Belgian Ambassador to Unicef since 1997, is heavily
involved in this project. She went to Laos in January in a
personal capacity and returned there again in May with Unicef.
The Limburg songstress spoke of what she saw and experienced
there with great sensitivity, and highlighted the lack of
any health care in the most backward regions of Laos. The
following remark says it all: 'If I lived there, I wouldn't
be alive today, and neither would my daughter.'
